PURPOSE: A tension type shadow mask support frame for a cathode ray tube is provided to improve a howling feature and reduce a frame process cost by increasing a contact force by a damp wire. CONSTITUTION: An upper main frame and a main lower frame weld and support a shadow mask to a frame. A sub frame welds and fixes the upper main frame and the main lower frame. The sub frame compresses the upper main frame and the main lower frame and has an elastic support member function to which an elastic force is applied when welding the shadow mask. A shadow mask assembly for a cathode ray tube has upper and lower tensions. A curvature configuration of a shadow mask support member of the main frames from which the elastic force applied to the shadow mask is removed satisfies the following equation ΔR/R=0.95-1.05. The R is a curvature radius obtained by connecting a main frame center, and two both end points to one another. The ΔR is a curvature radius obtained by connecting three optional points of the main frame to one another.
