PURPOSE: A suction pump of a vacuum cleaner is provided to absorb and remove easily a waste of a large particle by increasing selectively a suction force adjusting an exhaust air amount. CONSTITUTION: A vacuum cleaner comprises a body casing(11), an extension pipe, and a suction head. An inner containing space is formed at the body casing, and a drain portion(16) is formed at a lower end of the body casing. The extension pipe is coupled at one side of the body casing, and the suction head for absorbing a fluid or a waste from an exterior is placed at an end of the extension pipe. A suction pump(51) of the vacuum cleaner is installed at an inner side of the body casing. The suction pump(51) comprises a pump casing(53) having the first air vent(54a) and the second air vent(54b), an opening/closing member(55) for opening and closing the second air vent, a suction fan(57) for generating a suction force, and a fan drive motor(59) for rotating and driving the suction fan.
