CORE INFEED APPARATUS FOR WINDER

A core infeed apparatus for a surface winder moves an elongated core (C) axially into the winder while an axial line of glue (33) is applied to the core. The core is moved into a space between a pair of rotatable core guides (46, 47). One of the core guides (46) is rotatable away from the core (C) while the other core guide (47) rotates the core toward a core inserter (25, 28, 31). The core is transferred to the core inserter (25, 28, 31), and the core inserter rotates to move the core toward the winding rolls (11, 12) of the rewinder. The position of the glue line (33) is accurately maintained as the core moves to its various positions.
