PURPOSE: A device and method for measuring surface defect of rod wire are provided to measure every kind of surface defect of the rod wire and to be less sensitive to vibration of the rod wire. CONSTITUTION: A device includes a reflector(20); a temperature measuring device; and a control part. The reflector is parabolic and placed to place a focus thereof on a rod wire(1) to receive diffused by the rod wire to reflect in a direction not interfering with the rod wire. The temperature measuring device comprises a linear radiation pyrometer(50) and a signal processor(60) to receive reflected light reflected by the reflector to convert into temperature data. The control part is a computer(70), comparing and analysing temperature data to measure degree of surface defect of the rod wire.
