The invention relates to a method for the size-adapted display of a digital document on a pixel-oriented output device. The inventive method comprises the following steps: reading the output image data of the digital document to be displayed which are stored in a digital storage medium into a main memory, including predetermined dimension data for displaying the digital document in a predetermined size; the dimension data of the desired output format of the digital document to be displayed on the output device which are stored in a digital storage medium are read into the main memory as the target image; the predetermined dimension data of the digital document to be displayed, and the dimension data of the desired output format are processed by means of at least one arithmetic unit mounted upstream of the main memory and a scale factor is generated depending on said dimension data; the predetermined dimension data in the output image data are multiplied by the scale factor by means of the arithmetic unit, and the output image data so modified are stored as target image data in the main memory or in any other storage medium; the target image data are transmitted to the output device, and the digital document is displayed on the output device according to the target image data; the dimension data of the desired output format are checked in recurrent time intervals; when the dimension data have changed, a new scale factor is generated, the target image data are calculated anew and the digital document is displayed once again. |
