PURPOSE: A method for opening and participating in a game using an instant massager and a device thereof are provided to enable a user to open a game to a wanted person simply and enable other person to participate in a game opened in advance simply. CONSTITUTION: An Internet user connects to an instant messenger server by operating an instant messenger(S10). If the Internet user selects a kind of a game in an instant messenger window(S12), the instant messenger server transmits a list of users being connected to the Internet out of users registered in the instant messenger by the Internet user to the Internet user(S14). The Internet user selects other users in the instant messenger window(S16). A game is opened by connecting a computer of the Internet user and computers of the other users to a network game server which uses a member database identical with that of the instant messenger server(S18,S20,S24). If a participator loads an invitation dialogue window in the instant messenger window(S46), the instant messenger server transmits a list of users being connected to the Internet out of users registered in the instant messenger by the participator to the participator(S48). If the participator selects a user to be invited in the list(S50), a user computer is connected to the network game server(S52) for participating in the game(S54).
