<p>Image forming apparatus and method in which an image information is converted into a pattern of electrostatic fields for modulating a transport of charged toner particles from a particle carrier towards an image receiving surface. The apparatus includes a background voltage source for producing a background electric field, a printhead structure in the background electric field with apertures and control electrodes, and control voltage sources for supplying control potentials to the control electrodes. The image receiving surface is movable in relation to the printhead structure for intercepting the transported charged toner particles. Control potentials are set to reach a print potential (Vb) starting a print period (tb) in order to permit the transport through at least one of said apertures and are set to reach a non-print potential (Vw) terminating the print period (tb) and starting a non-print period (tw) in order to restrict the transport until the print potential (Vb) is reached again. Both the print (tb) and non-print (tw) period are shorter than 100 νs.</p> |
