PURPOSE: A method for detecting a scene change of a moving picture video stream is provided to extract edge information in an image using an AC(Alternating Current) coefficient of DCT(Discrete Cosine Transform), and to detect whether to change a scene according to a variation degree of the edge information, so as to reduce wrong detection of a scene change and correctly detect a scene change block. CONSTITUTION: An edge component of moving picture signals are extracted. The edge component of the extracted current frame and an edge component of a prior frame are compared. If a result of comparing the edge component of the current frame and the edge component of the prior frame is over a predetermined threshold, a corresponding block is detected as a scene change block. When detecting the edge component of the current frame and the edge component of the prior frame, edge information that is information on the shape of an object is extracted using an AC coefficient calculated by performing DCT transform. |
