The device has a nozzle body with a nozzle arrangement with valve seat and actuator and a nozzle needle that interacts with the actuator and is moved against a spring force. A needle displacement detection sensor arrangement has a first part essentially formed by a first needle section in a high pressure chamber filled with liquid at high pressure and at least one coil as the second part connected to a current supply and signal acquisition unit. The device has a nozzle body (1) with a nozzle arrangement with a valve seat (5) and actuator (A) and a nozzle needle (7) that interacts with the actuator and is movable against a restoring spring (16) force. A sensor arrangement that detects nozzle needle displacement has a first part(17) essentially formed by a first section of nozzle needle within a high pressure chamber (13) filled with liquid under high pressure and at least one coil (19) as the second part connected to a current supply and signal acquisition unit (20). Independent claims are also included for the following: a displacement sensor.
