Production of a higher (meth)acrylate ester (I) by transesterifying a lower (meth)acrylate ester (II) with a higher alcohol (R<2>OH) in the presence of a stabilizer and a catalyst comprises separating the by-product lower alcohol (R<1>OH) and at least partly recycling it to the production of (II).
