A method for strengthening a textile web, especially a felt web, comprises the process of needling parallel yarns 11 to the web in the longitudinal direction of the web, wherein the yarns are needled onto the textile web at a lateral distance from one another and with needling limited to the yarn zones. An apparatus for strengthening a textile web comprises a needle board equipped with needles, and a stitch base located opposite the needle board and forming a guide for the textile web, wherein the stitch base is provided with parallel guide grooves aligned in the direction of passage of the textile web and which receive yarns to be needled to the web, and the needles of the needle board only penetrate the guide grooves.
