An electric double layer capacitor comprising an electrode containing a carbon material as the main component, and an electrolyte to form an electric double layer at the interface with the electrode, wherein the electrolyte is one having a salt of a quaternary onium containing a polyfluoroalkyl group dissolved in an organic solvent.
