The pig (1), to be passed centrally through straight and curved pipes (2) for maintenance, has a base body (4) in a dumb-bell shape with rotation symmetry in relation to its longitudinal axis (3). The two interconnected dumb-bell bodies (5,6) have outer surfaces (7) curved outwards, as seen on a longitudinal cross section, to lie against the inner wall (8) of the pipe. A test unit (10) and/or a tool is within the base body, with its test and/or working head between the dumb-bell bodies, encircling the periphery of the body. The outer surfaces of the dumb-bell bodies have an elastic and distorting sliding elastomer cushion (12). A number of pig bodies can be linked together, to be forced through the pipe by a fluid under pressure.
