An elastic support for a seat, e.g. for an office chair, has a central elastic element (6) bonded between upper and lower rigid plates (7,7'). The lower plate is fixed to the seat support and the upper plate is fixed to the underside of the seat cushion. The elastic element provides an elastic support against tipping in all directions. The element can be a solid block or a ring shaped structure.
