Inspection system for flat thin objects, especially flat glass (13) used in a display. Contact-free inspection is undertaken using a camera (16) and illumination system (18, 19). To transport the glass past the inspection system and to hold it at a defined height, it is supported on air cushions of a fixed thickness, so that the glass is held at an exact distance from the scanning camera system. The air cushions are formed by pressurized injection of air into fine pored porous plates.
