A textile surface structure of surface weight 10-120 g/m<2> and flexural strength less than 10 Nmm<2>, tensile strength 1 /- N/g surface weight, comprising (wt.%): chrome leather fibers (20-40), cellulose fibres (/= 30), binder fibers (0-10), remainder up to 100 wt.% textile fibers. The textile surface structure is optionally impregnated with up to 30 wt.% aqueous binder dispersion relative to the dry weight. An Independent claim is included for preparation of the surface structure by wetting chrome leather waste, suspension of this with textile fibers, and consolidating to a fleece, and optional impregnation with an aqueous binder dispersion, and drying.
