PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an audio unit that causes no distortion resulting from a frequency band lost in the compression process. SOLUTION: A CPU 8 discriminates a compression rate and/or a compression system of audio data D1 on the basis of a data signal S1 with respect to a sampling frequency and a quantization bit number sent from a DSP 2 and refers to a data table having been stored in advance in a memory 9 to read a variable in response to the compression rate and/or the compression system. Comparing the variable with an adjustment value from an equalizer adjustment means 7 and adjusted by the preference of a viewer by each sampling frequency selects a value which is smaller for a setting value of an equalizer 4.
