IMAGE READER AND IMAGE INPUT/OUTPUT SYSTEM USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin image reader for accurately controlling a position of a carriage in a sub-scanning direction and an image reading system using the same. SOLUTION: The image reader forms a recess on the carriage 21 at a site not interfering with an optical path from an original surface to a CCD image sensor, suspends a light shielding sensor 42 so as to be contained in the recess so as to be hung from a frame 41, and detects the position of a piece 22 to be detected to detect the position of the carriage 21. A motor 51 is disposed so as to be contained in the recess.
