PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical reader wherein the total thickness of a housing is reduced, its lower surface form is matched with the form of a paper ejection tray in image forming equipment, and taking-out operability of an image forming sheet is improved. SOLUTION: This optical reader is equipped with a platen glass on which a manuscript is mounted, a light source means for casting a light on the manuscript surface through the platen glass, a reflecting means for reflecting a reflected light from the manuscript surface to a prescribed direction, a carriage which mounts a photoelectric converting means which receives the light reflected from the reflecting means and converts the light to an electric signal, and the housing which holds the platen glass in an upper part and accommodates the carriage reciprocating through a home position in the inner part. An accommodation part protruding downward is formed on the home position side lower surface of the housing, and a control circuit board for controlling a signal from a photoelectric converter element is arranged in the accommodation part.
