PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording/reproducing device with play list generation guide function, which can easily perform editing while a thumb nail is confirmed on a picture and can easily generate management information (play list) on the reproduction order of a chapter or a title. SOLUTION: The thumb nail of a program (chapter or title) is generated and a plurality of generated thumb nails lists are displayed in a thumb nail display area 85a on the picture, the desired thumb nail is selected from a plurality of the thumb nails and is arranged in a selected thumb nail display area 85b. Thus, the play list can easily be generated.
