PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording tape which can improve the resolution and obtain a high output and is capable of performing recording and reproducing with high reliability by lessening an off-track during traveling and a head clogging in spite of having narrow-width tracks. SOLUTION: This magnetic recording medium has a magnetic layer for information recording containing ferromagnetic powder and a binder on one surface of a nonmagnetic base and a magnetic layer for servo signal recording containing the ferromagnetic powder and the binder on another surface. The saturation magnetization quantity of the magnetic layer for servo signal recording is equal to or greater than the saturation magnetization quantity of the magnetic layer for information recording.
