PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an external device to easily and inexpensively issue a job to a peripheral device while effectively utilizing the memory resources of the system. SOLUTION: The peripheral device stores modes in which the peripheral device can perform processing when the external device controls the peripheral device through a network, and the external device acquires the stored modes through the network and displays the modes in a list. When a desired mode is selected among the modes displayed in the list, a job input start command composed by designating the selected mode is transmitted to the peripheral device through the network.
