PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coiling method and a coiling machine for orderly and stably coiling a coil wire, up to the end collar from the root of each pole of core without generating disturbance of coiling. SOLUTION: In the area from the root of a pole P up to the area near the end collar F, a couple of main formers 36 are moved in this area. While a coil wire W is slid at the external surface of the main formers 36, the coil wire W is guided and coiled to a predetermined position of the pole P. Meanwhile, at the area near the end collar F of the pole P, a side slide former 43 which is disposed to hold both sides of the area near the end collar F is advanced to both sides of the area near the end collar F. Consequently, a pair of main formers 36 and the side slide former 43 are made to cooperate with each other to coil the coil wire W, while being guided to the coiling position of the pole P.
