PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a method for driving an active matrix type EPD(Electro Phoretic Display) which does not require high driving voltage and does not cause incorrect rewriting in a display unit using electrophoretic ink. SOLUTION: In the case display contents are changed, the contents which have been displayed are erased over the whole display area, and new display contents are written thereafter. To be more precise, after making electrical potential of all pixel electrodes identical, the contents which have been displayed are erased over the whole display area, and the new display contents are written thereafter by applying voltage between the common electrode and the pixel electrode.
