PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium wherein excellent running properties and durability are realized under any utilizing condition, the wear of a head and the deterioration of magnetic characteristics are prevented and the shelf properties are excellent by using a lubricant which has an excellent lubrication effect and whith which the generation of a powder falling is prevented and enhancing the adhesion stability of a protective film to a lubricant layer. SOLUTION: In the magnetic recording medium provided with a magnetic layer consisting of a ferromagnetic metal material, a protective film and a lubricant layer containing, as a lubricant, a compound of a bifunctional perfluoropolyether having carboxyl groups at terminals and an amine, expressed by the formula 1 (wherein Rf denotes a perfluoropolyether chain; R1, R2, R3 and R4 are each denotes hydrogen or a hydrocarbon group), on a non-magnetic substrate and used for a helical scan magnetic recording and reproducing system using a magneto-resistive effect type reproducing head, an absorption layer containing an aromatic amine is provided between the protective film and the lubricant layer.
