PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a television camera for recognizing an object, capable of simplifying various picture processing at a picture processor side by allowing this device to have a function of a sensor for recognition. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a luminance converting means for converting the luminance of fetched picture data, and a control means for controlling the conversion characteristics of the luminance converting means. The conversion characteristics of the luminance converting means can be set as arbitrary conversion characteristics from an external picture processor through the control means, so that an object to be photographed can be recognized.
