PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which multiplexes information in a system area to secure the reliability of information in the system area even in a magnetic disk device where the number of heads is smaller than the degree of multiplexing of the system area. SOLUTION: A control program recognizes the number of heads in the magnetic disk device to judge whether a plurality of heads should be used to write information in the system area from the same sector on the same cylinder plural times while changing the heads or should write information in the system area a plurality of times with the same head while changing cylinders, and thus information in the system area can be multiplexed by one control program independently of the number of mounted heads. In the latter case, the write start position of information in the system area is shifted by a certain number of sectors by cylinders, and thus the state that multiplexed information in the system area cannot be read at all due to a single medium flaw is prevented and multiplexed information in the system area can be updated without latency.
