PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of the deterioration of an overwriting characteristic when coming close to a read track caused by a narrowed writing track due to track narrowing following a higher recording density from now on. SOLUTION: The magnetic writing track width is set equal to or lower than 1.0μm, and difference of width dimension obtained by subtracting a magnetic read track width (Mag-RTw) on an MR head from the magnetic writing track width (Mag-WTw) is set to 0.2μm to 0.8μm. Thus, the thin film magnetic head capable of dealing with narrower tracks following a higher recording density from now on, and having a good overwriting characteristic having an absolute value of 30 (dB) or higher and a good reproducing characteristic, and the magnetic head device using the magnetic head are obtained.
