PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which can reduce the interference between a screen pattern and a dither pattern. SOLUTION: A dither pattern selection unit 312 is provided in a ROM 304 and selects a dither pattern most suitable for a screen pattern among a plurality of dither patterns and a dither processing unit 313 carries out a dither process of designated colors with the dither pattern to generate color data. A plurality of patterns are stored in a dither pattern storage unit 314 and the color data generated by the dither processing unit 313 are stored in a color data storage unit 315. By selecting the most suitable dither pattern corresponding to the designated screen pattern among the plurality of dither patterns, the interference between the screen pattern and the dither pattern can be reduced and an output with nearly ideal colors can be obtained.
