Treatment composition contains a cationic polyurethane. Treatment composition comprises a protector and conditioner and a cationic polyurethane of formula (I): R-X-(P)n(L-(Y)m)r-L'-(P')p-X'-R' (I) R and R' = H or hydrophobic group; X and X' = amine or L''; L, L' and L'' = diisocyanate derivative; P and P' = amine; Y = hydrophilic group; r = 1-100 (1-25); m, n and p = 0-1000. Direct dyeing, oxidizing dyes and bleaching compositions containing (I) are excluded. An Independent claim is also included for the use of the polyurethane in cosmetic compositions to increase the efficacy of the protective or conditioning agent.
