PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture recording/reproducing device which can efficiently operate a chase reproduction function. SOLUTION: The device is provided with an input means (1) inputting a video sound signal, a recording/reproducing means (4) recording the inputted video sound signal and reproducing the recorded video sound signal, selection/ output means (5 and 8) selecting and outputting the inputted input video sound signal or the reproduced reproduction video sound signal, a picture recording/ reproducing control means (9) reproducing the recorded video sound signal while the video sound signal is recorded, and an output control means (9) selecting and outputting the reproduced video sound signal by the selection/ output means when the video sound signal being the object of recording differs from the video sound signal being the object of reproduction in simultaneous recording/reproduction and selecting and outputting the input video sound signal by the selection/output means when the video sound signal being the object of recording becomes substantially similar to the video sound signal being the object of reproduction.
