PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a half duplex optical communication system, that allows a master equipment to inform a slave equipment about a state of an optical channel using an inexpensive configuration and is not susceptible to noise and the intensity of a received light. SOLUTION: In the format of a channel idle notice command, a preamble for synchronization is provided at the head of the format, and a command frame is provided after the preamble. The command frame consists of a command header field, the command field and a command argument field.
