PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission type image display device in which the variation of characteristics such as color characteristics and luminance caused by the component members other than the lamp is controlled. SOLUTION: The transmission type image display device is equipped with light sources 51 and 52 consisting of two or more kinds of lamps which have different emission colors, etc., a light source control circuit part 10 which controls the light sources 51 and 52, etc., a shutter 1 which is equipped with pixels each having a color filter and generates images by controlling these pixels, a shutter control circuit part 8 which controls the shutter 1, a sensor 7 which detects the properties of the light which is emitted from the light sources 51 and 52, etc., and transmitted through the shutter 1, and a circuit part 9 which determines the driving conditions of the light sources 51 and 52, etc., set in advance to obtain a target color based on the properties of the light detected by the detecting sensor 7 and inputs the driving conditions into the light source control circuit part 10.
