PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a reflection type light emitting diode practically usable by forming a reflecting mirror having an optically sufficient mirror face. SOLUTION: This reflection type light emitting diode 1 is constituted by attaching a concave reflecting mirror 5 formed by pressing an aluminum plate to leads 3a and 3b which supply electric power to a light emitting element 2, and sealing the mirror 5 with a transparent epoxy resin 6. The reflecting mirror 5 is manufactured by carefully pressing the aluminum plate which is manufactured by a method in which roll marks are hardly left on the surface of the plate at rolling time, and has the linear reflectivity of 85% to a paraboloid of revolution-like concave shape having the light emitting element 2 at the focal point so that the surface roughness of the plate may be maintained. Therefore, the reflecting surface has an optically sufficient mirror face and all of the light emitted from the light emitting element 2 is reflected by the mirror 5 in the direction parallel to the axis of the paraboloid of revolution. Consequently, the outward radiant efficiency of this light emitting diode can be improved, and the degree of freedom for designing the light emitting characteristic, such as the light distributing characteristic, etc., of this diode can be increased. In addition, a high luminous intensity can be realized. |
