摘要

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an RGBW type liquid crystal display device to display an image in proper brightness and also perform not only RGBW display but also RGB display. SOLUTION: A decoder calculates output brightness data for white from RGB input data. A prescribed arithmetic expression is incorporated in the decoder, and the output brightness data for white is calculated by using the minimum value of the RGB input data as a functional variable of the arithmetic expression. It is made possible to display the image in proper brightness by driving each sub-pixel of RGBW by using the output brightness data for white together with the RGB input data. Further, it is also made possible to display a RGB display image by properly controlling the output brightness data.
