PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compensate data before fatal damage to a recording medium or a magnetic head in a magnetic disk device to which an impact is applied. SOLUTION: Application of an impact to the magnetic disk is monitored by an impact sensor, and an address range 8 in which data should be inhibited from being used is determined on the basis of a magnetic head position 7 at the time of impact application, and data in this range is allowed to move to an unused area, and thus the frequency with which the magnetic head passes a mark made by the impact is reduced to compensate data before reception of fatal damage.
