PURPOSE: An automatic file encoding or decoding method is provided to encode a file by conducting a drag and drop operation of the file in an automatic encoding area, and to decode a file by conducting a drag and drop operation of the file out of the automatic encoding area so that it can simplify an encoding or decoding process. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises an encoding step and a decoding step. The encoding step includes processes of selecting a file to be encoded, checking if a source area is an automatic encoding area, generating source data objects and storage space objects by using an OLE function if the source area is not an automatic encoding area, storing, dragging and loading the selected file, checking if the file is overlapped, encoding the file, erasing the original file, and refreshing the source area. The decoding step includes processes of selecting a file to be decoded, checking if a source area is an automatic decoding area, generating source data objects and storage space objects by using an OLE function if the source area is not an automatic encoding area, storing, dragging and loading the selected file, checking if the file is overlapped, asking a password if the file is not overlapped, encoding the file and erasing the original file if the password is input, and refreshing the source area.
