<p>A process to treat solvated mesophase pitches having a range of solvent fractions and gaseous cracking products therein following production of the mesophase pitch and prior to spinning into carbon fibers. The process includes the steps of heating the mesophase pitch to a temperature which corresponds to a boiling point of the highest boiling solvent fraction sought to be removed in order to separate certain low boiling point solvents and gaseous cracking products from the mesophase pitch. The lower boiling point solvents and gaseous cracking products are thereafter removed following the separation and prior to the fiber spinning stage.</p> |
