Production of a printing ink comprises feeding a lipophilic binder and an aqueous slurry containing a lipophilic colored pigment to a first processing stage; shearing the slurry and binder to partially re-wet the pigment with the binder; removing water; feeding to a second processing stage; partially re-wetting and removing water; and removing and collecting the flowable mass free from water as the end product. An Independent claim is also included for a device for producing a printing ink. Preferred Features: The colored pigment of the slurry is present in an amount of 2-10, preferably 2.5-5 %. The water added is distilled water or heated water. The shearing rate is 100/a to 100000/s. The temperature in the first processing stage is 0-200, preferably 40-120 deg C.
