The plastic oil seal (20) for a hydraulic impact damper (10) has two sealing lips (21, 22) which are in axial gliding contact with the reciprocating piston rod (13) of the damper. The nominal inside diameter of the sealing lip (22) is by 0.3 to 1.0 mm smaller than the outside diameter of the piston rod.
