The method involves sending a sequence(s) of reports with reception strengths at mobile part(s) and/or a base station to a computer unit, dividing the base station region into raster cells, determining observation probabilities using noise models, maximizing an anticipated value by varying input, output, transition probabilities and processing products of observation and transition probabilities for report sequences for all equal length paths. The method involves sending at least one sequence of reports with reception strengths at the mobile part(s) (MS) and/or serving base station to a computer unit (RE), dividing the region served by the base station(s) (B5) into raster cells (PIX), determining observation probabilities using noise models for raster cells for all relevant reports, maximizing an anticipated value for the sequence(s) of reports by varying input, output and transition probabilities and processing the products of observation probabilities and transition probabilities for sequences of reports for all paths of the same length.
