Production of a hot strip comprises using a casting installation (8) having exchangeable segments (8a, 8b), one segment (8a) producing thin thickness regions and the other segment (8b) producing average to thick thickness regions. An Independent claim is also included for a device for producing a hot strip. Preferred Features: A twin roller casting machine is used to produce thin thickness regions in the range of 1-5 mm.
