PURPOSE: To provide a coating method capable of forming a coating film with approximately even thickness and simultaneously coating both faces, having at a high coating speed, and excellent in productivity and provide an apparatus for the method. CONSTITUTION: The method for producing a plate-like coated product comprises steps of holding a plate-like object 1 to be coated in a manner that the object face to be coated is kept in parallel to the gravity direction, moving the object 1 to be coated in the horizontal direction in parallel to the object face to be coated, and passing the object 1 to be coated between coating rolls 10, 10 whose rotary shafts 12 are kept perpendicular to the moving direction of the object 1 and the normal direction of the object face and rotated in the same direction as the moving direction and whose surface bears a coating solution supplied from a coating solution supply means 16 while bringing the object 1 into contact with the coating rolls 10, 10 to form a coating film on the surface of the object 1. The apparatus is provided to carry out the method. Scratching means such as doctor rods 17 may be installed in the surface of the coating rolls 10 and the coating solution may be applied previously to the surface of the object 1 by a coating solution supply means 20.
