Process for regulating and smoothing the power output of an offshore power station close to the coast comprises producing oxygen and hydrogen in the gas state by electrolysis; storing the hydrogen produced and optionally the oxygen produced in a storage unit; converting the stored hydrogen and oxygen or air enriched with oxygen into electrical energy; and injecting the electrical power into a collecting rail (8) which connects the power units (1) and the energy storage devices (10) to momentarily smooth and raise the total power output in addition to the power of the power station. An Independent claim is also included for a device for regulating and smoothing the power output of an offshore power station close to the coast. Preferred Features: A low or high pressure electrolysis process is used for producing gaseous oxygen and hydrogen, in which the oxygen and hydrogen are pre-compressed in separate compressors (11) before being fed to the storage devices.
