To switch off the electric motor, a switch (R1,R2) maintaining the connection to the supply voltage source (VB) is switched by means of a control signal applied to it at a switch-off point (t1). The method involves separating one of the two poles of the supply voltage source (VB) from the switching contacts of a change-over switch (R1,R2) at the switch-off point (t1) or shortly before it (t1') using an electronic switch (F1). The switch (R1,R2) is a relay and the electronic switch is a transistor.
