A system for collection of precipitation on the surface of a body of water that is simple, inexpensive, and modular, making it also simple to deploy. The system includes one or more floating collectors made up of a buoyant support, which may be flexible and inflatable or substantially rigid, and a flexible collector sheet element, impermeable to liquid, fastened to the support which defines a partition between precipitation collected therein and the water body surface; a baffle arranged in operative association with the one or more floating collectors configured to prevent liquid from the body of water from entering the collector sheet element; and a water transfer device to transfer collected precipitation from the floating collector to a water storage container, which may be on a floating platform which may be towable or self-propelled, or may be included in a fixed platform or be land-based. |
