An amorphous coke obtained by compounding a coal tar and/or petroleum heavy oil with a resin and subjecting the composition to thermal cracking/polycondensation, wherein the coke has a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than the coke obtained from the heavy oil alone and gives a molding which upon graphitization shrinks by at least 0.3% in terms of volume change; and a process for producing an amorphous coke for special carbonaceous materials which comprises subjecting a coal tar and/or petroleum heavy oil to thermal cracking/polycondensation, wherein a resin is incorporated into the feed material to thereby alter a coke crystal structure.
|
