The column tube (1) has two telescopic tube sections (2, 3) frictionally engaged in an interference fit and displaceable in the event of a crash. The tube sections are connected to one another with frictional engagement over the entire displacement path to prevent hard impact of the driver against the steering wheel and to absorb impact energy.
