ALTERNATE PHASE MODULATION FOR NON-SOLITON OPTICAL RZ TRANSMISSION

The invention concerns optical fibre transmission systems, with non-soliton RZ signals. In order to reduce the effect of non-linear interaction between neighbouring pulses, it provides that the phase difference between a pulse end and the neighbouring pulse start should range between 2 pi /3 and 4 pi /3. The invention can be implemented by phase reversal each time a new pulse is emitted, or by phase variation within each pulse.
