The method for operation of a valve for a hydraulic adjustment unit (10) consists of two relatively adjustable section units (12, 14) as well as an actuator (16) for adjusting the section units relative to one another. The adjustment in one direction is achieved via the pressure admission of the actuator via a first pressure channel (A) and the adjustment in the other direction is achieved via the pressure admission of the actuator via another pressure channel (B). There is a locking system to lock both section units in a position relative to each other, whereby the release of the locking system is achieved via the admission of pressure from the first pressure channel. To adjust the two section units from the locked level, hydraulic means in the first channel are admitted at a pressure (p1, p2) that is less than the normal pressure requirement.
